Dartmouth Handy Movers reserves the right to decline work that requires a licence, permit, certification, trade qualification, or specialized equipment that the company does not hold or have available.
2. Estimates and Quotes
Estimates may be prepared using photographs, videos, descriptions provided by the customer, measurements, telephone conversations, or an on-site assessment.
An estimate is not necessarily a fixed price unless it is specifically identified as a fixed or firm quote in writing.
The final price may change if actual conditions differ from the information provided, including the quantity, weight, size, accessibility, labour required, disposal requirements, or condition of materials.
Where reasonably possible, Dartmouth Handy Movers will discuss significant additional charges with the customer before performing additional work.
3. Scope of Work
The customer and Dartmouth Handy Movers should agree on the intended scope of work before the job begins.
The agreed scope may include the services, estimated labour, materials, disposal, transportation, and other charges applicable to the project.
Requests for additional work or changes to the original scope may result in additional charges.
Where reasonably possible, additional work will be discussed and approved by the customer before it is performed.
4. Customer Responsibilities
The customer is responsible for providing accurate and complete information about the job. The customer must disclose information that may reasonably affect the work, including:
- Access limitations
- Stairs and elevators
- Parking restrictions
- Heavy or oversized items
- Hazardous conditions
- Structural concerns
- Hidden or known damage
- Special disposal requirements
- Other conditions that may affect safety, pricing, or scheduling
The customer is also responsible for obtaining permissions, approvals, or permits that are legally required from the property owner, landlord, municipality, condominium corporation, or other authority, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
5. Property Access, Parking and Site Conditions
The customer must provide reasonable access to the property and work area at the agreed time.
The customer should arrange suitable parking where reasonably possible.
Additional time or charges may result from difficult access, long carrying distances, stairs, elevators, restricted parking, locked access, narrow entrances, or other conditions that were not disclosed when the estimate was prepared.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may postpone or refuse work where access or site conditions create an unreasonable safety risk.
6. Moving Services
Moving charges may depend on factors including:
- Number and size of items
- Weight of items
- Distance traveled
- Number of crew members required
- Vehicle requirements
- Stairs and elevators
- Loading and unloading conditions
- Special handling requirements
- Waiting time
- Additional stops
The customer should identify unusually heavy, fragile, valuable, or oversized items before the move.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may refuse items that cannot reasonably or safely be moved using the available equipment, vehicle, or crew.
7. Junk and Garbage Removal
Junk removal prices may be based on volume, weight, labour, transportation, disposal costs, or a combination of these factors.
The customer should provide accurate information about the amount and type of material to be removed.
If the actual amount or type of material is significantly different from what was described or shown, Dartmouth Handy Movers may adjust the price before completing the additional work where reasonably possible.
8. Disposal and Dump Fees
Disposal charges may be included in the quoted price or charged separately, depending on the agreement.
The customer may be responsible for applicable disposal, landfill, transfer-station, recycling, special handling, or environmental fees.
Certain materials may have substantially higher disposal costs than ordinary household waste.
Where possible, the customer will be informed if unexpected disposal costs are discovered.
9. Prohibited, Hazardous or Restricted Materials
Dartmouth Handy Movers may refuse to transport, remove, handle, or dispose of materials that are dangerous, illegal, contaminated, or subject to special regulations.
Examples may include hazardous chemicals, fuels, explosives, certain asbestos-containing materials, biohazardous materials, unknown substances, and other regulated materials.
The customer must disclose known hazardous materials before work begins.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may stop work immediately if an unsafe or prohibited material is discovered.
10. Demolition Services
Demolition services are generally limited to the scope specifically agreed upon.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, demolition services do not include engineering, structural design, asbestos abatement, hazardous-material remediation, or other specialized work.
The customer is responsible for obtaining permits or approvals required for the project unless Dartmouth Handy Movers has expressly agreed in writing to obtain them.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may stop work if hidden structural, electrical, plumbing, environmental, or other hazards are discovered.
11. Painting Services
Painting services may include interior or exterior painting, touch-ups, repainting, preparation, and related work as agreed.
The quality and appearance of the finished result may be affected by the existing surface, previous coatings, moisture, temperature, damage, contamination, and other conditions.
Surface repairs, extensive preparation, drywall repairs, sanding, priming, caulking, or other preparation may be charged separately unless included in the agreed scope.
Customers should remove or protect personal belongings where reasonably possible.
12. Drywall, Mudding, Taping and Sanding
Drywall services may include installation, repairs, patching, mudding, taping, and sanding.
The final appearance may depend on the existing wall condition, lighting, surface texture, and quality of previous construction.
Additional repairs discovered after work begins may require additional charges.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may recommend specialized professionals where structural, moisture, mould, electrical, or other conditions are outside the agreed scope.
13. Renovation and Handyman Services
Dartmouth Handy Movers may provide light to moderate renovation and handyman services where appropriate.
The exact scope, materials, labour, and pricing should be agreed before work begins.
Work requiring specialized licensing, engineering, certification, or permits may be declined or referred to an appropriately qualified professional.
14. Minor Plumbing Services
Where within the company's capabilities and permitted by law, minor plumbing-related services may include certain drain clearing, sink, faucet, trap, fixture, or minor plumbing modifications.
Dartmouth Handy Movers does not represent that every plumbing problem can be safely or legally handled as a handyman service.
If the issue involves major plumbing work, concealed damage, significant leaks, sewer problems, structural concerns, or work requiring a licensed professional, the company may stop and recommend a qualified plumber.
15. Door and Hardware Installation
Door installation and hardware work may depend on measurements, door condition, frame condition, alignment, hardware compatibility, and the condition of the surrounding structure.
Additional work may be required if the existing frame or opening requires repair or modification.
If the customer supplies the door or hardware, the customer is responsible for ensuring that the supplied product is suitable unless Dartmouth Handy Movers has agreed to verify it beforehand.
16. Materials and Customer-Supplied Products
Materials may either be supplied by Dartmouth Handy Movers or by the customer.
Where Dartmouth Handy Movers purchases materials for the customer, the customer may be responsible for the approved material cost, delivery charges, and related expenses.
Material shortages, supplier delays, or unavailable products may affect the project schedule.
Dartmouth Handy Movers will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant material-related delays.
17. Booking and Appointments
A booking is generally considered confirmed when the service, date, approximate time, and applicable pricing terms have been agreed.
A deposit may be required for certain projects.
Unless specifically guaranteed in writing, appointment times are estimates and may be affected by traffic, weather, previous jobs, emergencies, vehicle issues, material delays, or other circumstances outside reasonable control.
18. Customer Cancellation and Rescheduling
Customers should provide at least 24 hours' notice when cancelling or requesting a rescheduling of an appointment.
Where permitted by law and clearly agreed beforehand, a cancellation charge or loss of a deposit may apply in certain circumstances, particularly where Dartmouth Handy Movers has incurred costs or declined other work to reserve the appointment.
Nothing in this section is intended to remove any cancellation or consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.
19. Company Cancellation or Rescheduling
Dartmouth Handy Movers may postpone, reschedule, or refuse a job where:
- Conditions are unsafe
- Required access is unavailable
- Required permits are missing
- Information provided by the customer is materially inaccurate
- Hazardous materials are discovered
- Weather creates unsafe conditions
- The work is outside the company's capabilities
- Required equipment is unavailable
- The customer or another person creates an unsafe working environment
The company will make reasonable efforts to communicate such changes to the customer promptly.
20. Weather and Unforeseen Conditions
Outdoor services may be delayed or rescheduled because of rain, snow, ice, high winds, extreme temperatures, storms, or other unsafe weather conditions.
Unexpected site conditions may also affect the work.
Dartmouth Handy Movers will make reasonable efforts to reschedule affected work as soon as practical.
21. Payment Terms
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due upon completion of the agreed work.
The customer is responsible for approved additional work, materials, disposal fees, and other agreed charges.
Payment methods accepted by Dartmouth Handy Movers may be communicated to the customer before or during the booking.
Customers should raise any billing concerns promptly.
Unpaid amounts may be subject to lawful collection procedures or other remedies available under applicable law.
22. Deposits and Additional Work
A deposit may be required for certain services, larger projects, material purchases, or appointments requiring advance preparation.
The amount and purpose of any deposit should be communicated before payment.
Additional work outside the original scope may result in additional charges.
Where reasonably possible, Dartmouth Handy Movers will obtain customer approval before proceeding with significant additional work.
23. Property Damage and Pre-Existing Conditions
Dartmouth Handy Movers will take reasonable care while performing services.
The company is not responsible for damage that existed before work began or damage resulting from conditions that could not reasonably be identified beforehand.
This may include concealed defects, weakened structures, improperly installed materials, deteriorated surfaces, pre-existing damage, customer-supplied defective products, or unsafe conditions.
Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
24. Customer Valuables and Personal Property
Customers should remove or securely store cash, jewellery, important documents, electronics, collectibles, and other valuable or fragile personal property before work begins.
The customer should identify any items requiring special handling.
Dartmouth Handy Movers may decline responsibility for items that were not properly disclosed, secured, or prepared for the service.
25. Photographs and Documentation
Dartmouth Handy Movers may take photographs or videos of the work area or completed work for documentation, estimating, quality-control, or dispute-resolution purposes.
Where appropriate, reasonable steps will be taken to avoid unnecessarily capturing personal or sensitive information.
Marketing use of customer property, photographs, or testimonials should be handled with appropriate permission where required.
26. Privacy and Personal Information
Dartmouth Handy Movers may collect information necessary to provide its services, including customer names, telephone numbers, email addresses, service addresses, project information, appointment details, and payment-related information. Information may be used to:
- Schedule services
- Prepare estimates
- Communicate with customers
- Provide services
- Process payments
- Issue invoices and receipts
- Maintain business records
- Handle customer-service matters
- Meet legal or regulatory obligations
Dartmouth Handy Movers does not intend to sell or rent customer personal information.
Information may be shared with service providers, payment processors, or other parties where reasonably necessary to operate the business or where required or permitted by law.
27. Electronic Communications
Customers may communicate with Dartmouth Handy Movers by telephone, text message, email, social media, or other electronic methods offered by the business.
Electronic communication may be used for estimates, scheduling, appointment confirmations, invoices, payment information, and customer-service matters.
Customers should notify the company if their contact information changes.
28. Customer Reviews and Testimonials
Dartmouth Handy Movers may invite customers to provide reviews or testimonials.
A customer's review remains the customer's own statement.
The company will not knowingly alter a customer's review in a misleading manner.
Where permission is required to use a testimonial, photograph, or identifiable customer information for marketing purposes, appropriate permission should be obtained.
29. Customer Complaints and Service Concerns
Customers who have a concern about completed work should contact Dartmouth Handy Movers as soon as reasonably possible.
The customer should provide details of the concern and, where appropriate, photographs or other supporting information.
Dartmouth Handy Movers will make reasonable efforts to investigate and resolve legitimate concerns fairly. Depending on the circumstances, a resolution may include correction of agreed work, additional service, an adjustment, or another reasonable solution.
30. Service Correction, Returns and Refunds
Because Dartmouth Handy Movers primarily provides services rather than retail products, traditional product-return rules generally do not apply to completed services.
If work was not completed in accordance with the agreed scope, the customer may request that the issue be reviewed.
Where appropriate and legally required, Dartmouth Handy Movers may provide reasonable corrective work.
Refunds or price adjustments are not automatically guaranteed and will depend on the circumstances, the agreement, applicable law, and the nature of the concern.
Nothing in this section is intended to limit rights or remedies provided to consumers under applicable law.
31. Right to Refuse or Stop Work
Dartmouth Handy Movers reserves the right to refuse or stop work where reasonably necessary for safety, legal, operational, or other legitimate reasons.
This may include situations involving hazardous materials, unsafe working conditions, abusive or threatening behaviour, missing access, undisclosed conditions, non-payment, prohibited work, or work outside the company's capabilities.
Where practical, the company will explain the reason for stopping or refusing the work.
32. Safety and Compliance
Safety is a priority for Dartmouth Handy Movers.
The company will take reasonable precautions appropriate to the work being performed.
Customers must not ask workers to perform work that is unsafe, illegal, or outside the agreed scope.
Where a job requires a permit, licensed trade, engineering assessment, or specialized professional, the customer may be required to arrange the appropriate professional unless otherwise agreed.
33. Delays and Force Majeure
Dartmouth Handy Movers is not responsible for delays caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control.
Examples may include severe weather, traffic incidents, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, illness, emergencies, material shortages, utility problems, government restrictions, or other unexpected events.
The company will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant delays and reschedule affected services.
34. Changes to These Terms
Dartmouth Handy Movers may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
The version applicable to a particular booking should generally be the version provided or agreed upon at the time of booking, subject to applicable law.
Updated terms may apply to future bookings after they are published or otherwise communicated.
35. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are intended to be governed by the laws applicable in the Province of Nova Scotia and applicable federal laws of Canada.
Any legal rights, obligations, or remedies will remain subject to applicable legislation and regulations.
36. Severability
If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is determined by a court or other legally authorized authority to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be interpreted or limited to the extent necessary, where legally permitted.
The remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
37. Entire Agreement and Customer Acknowledgement
These Terms and Conditions, together with any written estimate, quote, invoice, work order, or other written agreement applicable to the specific job, are intended to describe the agreement between Dartmouth Handy Movers and the customer.
If there is a conflict between these general terms and a specific written agreement signed or expressly accepted by both parties, the specific agreement may govern to the extent permitted by law.
By booking or authorizing services, the customer acknowledges that they have had an opportunity to review the applicable terms and ask questions before the work begins.
38. Effective Date and Legal Review
These Terms and Conditions and Service Policy are effective as of September 2026.
